Advent Talent Group is seeking a part-time Finance Assistant to support day-to-day financial and accounting operations within a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Minneapolis, MN. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting or finance professional who values flexibility, accuracy, and contributing to meaningful community impact. With changes underway in the organization and the finance function, this role has the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities over time.
Overview:
Location: Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid)
Pay Rate: $30–$33/hour
Part-time: 20+ hours per week
Position Type: Contract
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable, including vendor invoices, expense reimbursements, credit cards, and vendor setup
- Perform monthly reconciliations (bank, credit cards, general ledger accounts)
- Support month-end close, including journal entries, schedules, and documentation
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
- Assist with preparation of internal financial reports and audit support as needed
- Coordinate with internal staff and external partners (vendors, auditors, finance consultants)
- Support compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Provide general accounting and finance support as responsibilities evolve with the addition of a Controller
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as assigned
Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on accounting or finance experience
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience working in a nonprofit environment strongly preferred
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel; comfort learning new tools
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- CPA or other accounting certifications are a plus
- Flexible, adaptable mindset with comfort in a growing and changing organization
