Job Description

As a Suicide Prevention Call Specialist, you'll provide crisis counseling to individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or mental health emergencies via phone. You'll assess risk, create safety plans, and request emergency services when needed to secure caller safety.

THIS ROLE IS BASED IN MINNESOTA - ANY OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED

Overview:
Contract-to-hire
Remote schedule – including training!
Compensation: $27.50/hour + Shift Differentials
Shifts:
  • Thursday-Monday 12AM-8AM
  • Saturday-Wednesday: 4PM-12AM

Duties:
  • Deliver compassionate, non-judgmental crisis counseling and emotional support to callers, employing specialized intervention techniques with empathy and sensitivity
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of caller risk, including evaluating suicidal thoughts, plans, and intent, and respond appropriately based on established protocols.
  • Collaborate with callers to develop personalized safety plans and coping strategies tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all caller interactions in the database, ensuring comprehensive and compliant reporting.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing calls efficiently using a multi-line phone system, prioritizing calls based on urgency and risk level.
  • Stay up to date with current crisis intervention best practices, resources, and legislation to provide the highest quality of care.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in crisis management, mental health services, 911 dispatch, suicide prevention, or related role. 
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field, equivalent crisis intervention/mental health experience considered.
  • Expertise in mental health conditions, crisis intervention principles, suicide risk assessment, and professional phone etiquette.
  • Exceptional active listening, rapport-building skills, and ability to remain calm and focused in crisis situations.
  • Strong documentation skills, computer proficiency, and familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or other languages highly preferred to serve diverse communities.
